ALMA - Linking Lutheran Mission Agencies to proclaim and demonstrate God's love in Jesus Christ!

The Association of Lutheran Mission Agencies, (ALMA), is a professional service organization dedicated to helping link Lutheran mission agencies to each other and to The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in order to reach more lost and uncommitted people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. ALMA encourages cooperation in mission efforts in order to advance God's mission.

From its beginning in 1996 with less than 10 mission agencies, ALMA now includes approximately 75 different mission groups representing a variety of specialties, people groups and geographic focuses. For example, there are groups that focus on outreach and ministry to children and agricultural services. There are groups that focus on outreach to Jewish people, Muslim people in Central Asia and American Indian people. Some groups concentrate their efforts in Latin America and others in Africa or Asia.

While most of ALMA organizations are based in North America, membership is open to any Lutheran mission agency or society anywhere in the world. For more information on how to join ALMA, go to the membership page.

  • Throughout the year, ALMA's Web site, connects Lutheran mission groups to one another and to the worldwide Lutheran family. The Web site helps provide mission information such as opportunities for mission involvement and models for agencies looking for ways to work more effectively.

  • ALMA encourages member agencies and other mission-involved individuals and groups to share vital information, mission opportunities and best practices in order to encourage more effective mission work and greater participation in mission efforts by all members of the Body of Christ.

  • ALMA officers refer those in need of information, assistance and counsel to the appropriate ALMA agencies with the experience or expertise in a given situation.

  • ALMA officers provide counsel for congregations and individuals interested in starting a new mission agency. Click on the appropriate email below to request a starter kit that explains how to name a new mission agency, how to apply for a tax exempt status, how to develop articles of incorporation and bylaws, etc.

  • ALMA promotes participation in mission alliances and coordination with the denominational mission agency, LCMS World Mission. Individual ALMA agencies may also elect to develop a formal partnership with LCMS World Mission or another member agency.
